The Upper Straits Lake House is a truly unique home on an ideal site. A traditional Cape Cod in front, from other angles it changes from distinctly modern to marvelously classic. With more than 40 feet of butted glass from floor-to-ceiling and a Connecticut Field Stone grotto, this residence is one-of-a-kind.
The house is a hybrid architecturally. One client wanted a Cape Cod, and one was more contemporary. In the end, everyone won with a custom design that works beautifully for people of all ages.
– Richard Chadwick, Chief Project Architect
Situated perfectly on a peninsula, the house is surrounded by water on three sides. Stone columns support the inviting curved canopy at the entrance. Inside, the open, casual floor plan allows for modern living and entertaining at its finest, and always with a lake view. The open space is separated by traditional columns that make each room feel intimate, and extensive use of woods including cherry enhance the vibe.
An award-winning, curved stone staircase takes you from the main level to the grotto. With a fireplace, outdoor kitchen, radiant heaters in the ceiling and motorized screens that fold away into the archways, it’s a favorite location three seasons a year. This 21st century Cape Cod is special in every way.
