SEEN Magazine - December 2019
Home SEEN takes you inside a custom-built warm contemporary home in Bloomfield Hills with an incredible indoor pool designed by award-winning architect Lou DesRosiers.

Brought to you by DOBI

Host Cassie Kunze and DOBI real estate agents Vic Simjanoski and Ann Michael tour a stunning example of Michigan architecture in our latest episode of Home SEEN. This particular home built in 2010 was designed by renowned Michigan architect Lou DesRosiers in what’s known as “warm contemporary” style. This style is reminiscent of Frank Lloyd Wright’s prairie style, which The Frank Lloyd Wright Trust describes as “dramatic horizontal lines and masses…, that evoke the expansive Midwestern landscape.” The style often uses stone, wood and other organic materials found in nature, reflecting the structure’s environment.

This Bloomfield Hills home is constructed of Fond du Lac Wisconsin stone veneer, horizontal western cedar siding and fascia, and aluminum frame windows with bronze tinted glass.

HOME STATS

Main Level: 4,500 square feet
Lower Level: 4,000 square feet
Pool Room: 1,300 square feet
Bedrooms: four (with optional fifth)
Bathrooms: six full, two half baths

GREAT ROOM

The great room features an open layout with kitchen, dining and living spaces seamlessly flowing into one another. The floors are made of magnificent Emperador Spanish marble slabs. The walls feature floor-to-ceiling horizontal rift cut white oak panels and Fond du Lac Wisconsin stone piers, bringing together the exterior and interior.

The ceiling is raised in a stepped pyramid-style shape with built-in LED lighting, drawing the eye to the far wall and floor-to-ceiling views of the trees outside.

MASTER BATHROOM

The master bathroom has a 6-foot soaking tub as well as his and her floating mahogany vanities. The steam shower features silver travertine marble slabs and rain shower heads. There’s also a tanning booth.

STAIRWAY TO INDOOR POOL HEAVEN

A suspended switchback stairway connects the two levels. The stairway features the same rift cut white oak as the wall panels and floating marble treads and is finished with sleek glass balustrades and a cantilevered stainless steel railing.

A SHOWSTOPPING INDOOR POOL

Expansive glass walls separate the pool from the upper and lower levels, allowing a full view of the pool and the outdoors from everywhere in the home. Suspended glass floor panels on the main level showcase the pool beneath your feet, and the windows allow direct sunlight to stream in. The maintenance-free floors are made of warm gray porcelain tiles by Technofloor.
